Sandals & Sherbet: a Sunday Shoe Story

Some days it's just too hot to do anything but lounge around and eat sherbet.
Welcome to summer,
the time of year when we sweat and curse because there's only so naked we can get in public.

The New Age Wonderwoman

She sees the world in Technicolour, no judgement or bias clouding her sight.
Her weapon is the Key of Knowledge, which unlocks the secrets of the ages.
Clothed in language, she is armoured by the almighty word - not of God, but of all who speak, think, and write.
On her feet lie magical shoes, kin to the silver slippers of Dorothy. Two spins on her toes and she is transported home.
Her home that she also draws her name from...
She is the Librarian.

The Woman: a Sunday Shoe Story

Just because I’m wearing a skirt, doesn’t mean you can hit on me.
Just because I read fantasy novels, doesn’t mean you can pigeonhole my literary opinions.
Just because I wear high heels, doesn’t mean I can’t run from you (or use those pointed toes as a weapon).
Just because I don’t answer your question, doesn’t mean you can lecture me.
Just because I smile and say “good morning,” doesn’t mean that I want to hear your life story (or tell you mine).
Just because I wear makeup and shave my legs, doesn’t mean it’s for you.

Just because I’m a woman, doesn’t give you a right to think of me as weak.

Just because you’re a man, doesn’t mean you’re not still a boy.
Time to grow up, children.

Best Money I Ever Spent: a Sunday Shoe Story

At the end of every day, I'm thankful that I spent my money wisely and bought a super amazing mattress. I swear it's like sleeping on a cloud, and after a long week it's nice to kick off the stilettos and the hard-girl attitude and nestle down for some well-earned zzz's. Especially right now, when I know what the finish line looks like, but I still have a marathon to run.
Metaphorically, of course.
Like I run for anything (haha).

Bonus: finally swatched Sally Hansen's "Blue It"!
It's a blue week apparently.

Yellow Shorts Off: a Shoe Sunday Story

It's no secret that I love me some yellow shorts. I had this obsession way before I saw the infamous Sex & the City episode, but seeing Carrie Bradshaw rock them just made me want them more. Thus far I have a pair of perfect yellow shorts by Volcom, and trust me when I say it, I'll be wearing them lots this summer. Knowing me, I won't wait til it's actually warm enough, but whatever, I do what I want!

Harlem Shuffle

There's no such thing as too many pairs of rock n roll boots. My mother would disagree, but she disagrees with everything shoe-related.

Running: a Sunday Shoe Story

Sometimes a girl just wants to start running. Away from the past, away from the present, and into the future faster than the present can get her there.

She wants to pack her bags and buy a ticket to ride.

Take her empty thoughts and fill them with new adventures, new places, and new people.

She wants to forget her phone number, not check her email, and find herself planning nothing.

Looking for the open sky, and the city streets, and find that elusive crossroad sign that will take her to the place that she is meant to be.

She knows she's stuck in the present, but she can smell the dreams of her future on the wind and until she catches up she'll just have to keep running.

Diamonds are Girl's Best Friend

"Capecoral" platform pumps from Aldo
But if you can't afford diamonds, then settle for some ridiculously glittery shoes! Honestly, I would rather have sparkly shoes than jewelry anyways, considering how I reacted to the last piece of jewelry given to me...

A Woman's Right to Shoes

Every time I buy another pair of shoes (approximately every 3 weeks based on the number of shoes I acquired last year, divided by the amount of weeks per year) I inevitably have to answer the question “why do you need so many shoes?” My answer is simple, and hasn’t really changed since I started buying shoes en masse in grade 12: because I can. I’ve given up justifying to people my shoe addiction because I don’t feel that I should have to. Yes, I admit it is an addiction – Hi, my name is Riella, and I’m a shoe addict – but I’m totally okay with it. If I’m okay with it, then you should be okay with it. I haven’t given up my shoes yet, even though I had to pay quite a bit of money to ship them across the country when I moved, so don’t ever expect me to give them up! So learn to love it, or leave it alone, because I sure won’t leave my babies!

Nightboots: a Sunday Shoe Story

On a dark street walked two girls, each more different than the other.

Aldo Springston boots

One was small and dark and quiet.
Covered in leather and lace she reveled in the surrounding darkness and felt no fear.
Each sound in the night delighted her with mystery and magic, and she longed to disappear into the shadows.

The other was tall and bright and exuberant.
A riot of colours swirled through the darkness as she twirled between pools of light and skirted the encroaching darkness.
Head raised to the sky she reached towards the stars, wishing to hold the essence of light in her palms.

The companions journeyed through the night side by side, never thinking of their differences, focusing only on their completion of eachother.

Darkness and light together – contrast brought by the extremes of the other – without the other, each is meaningless.

Birthday Shoes: A Sunday Shoe Story

Aldo Markleys
Technically, I bought these shoes for my birthday back in April, but I haven’t worn them up until now (sacriledge I know). I figured that since it's my one year blog-iversary, I have a good enough excuse to wear them and post about them J

All's Well That Ends Well

If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, (and all is mended,)
That you have but slumber'd here,
While these visions did appear.
And this weak and idle theme,
No more yeilding but a dream,
Gentles, do not reprehend;
If you pardon, we will mend.
And, as I am an honest Puck,
If we have unearned luck,
Now to 'scape the serpent's tongue,
We will make amends, ere long:
Else the Puck a liar call.
So, good night unto you all.
Give me your hands, if we be friends,
And Robin shall restore amends.

Pump it Up!

I've been on tenterhooks
ending in dirty looks,
list'ning to the Muzak,
thinking 'bout this 'n' that.
She said that's that.
I don't wanna chitter-chat.
Turn it down a little bit
or turn it down flat.
Pump it up when you don't really need it.
Pump it up until you can feel it.

Down in the pleasure centre,
hell bent or heaven sent,
listen to the propaganda,
listen to the latest slander.
There's nothing underhand
that she wouldn't understand.

Pump it up until you can feel it.
Pump it up when you don't really need it.

She's been a bad girl.
She's like a chemical.
Though you try to stop it,
she's like a narcotic.
You wanna torture her.
You wanna talk to her.
All the things you bought for her,
putting up your temp'rature.

Pump it up until you can feel it.
Pump it up when you don't really need it.

Out in the fashion show,
down in the bargain bin,
you put your passion out
under the pressure pin.
Fall into submission,
hit-and-run transmission.
No use wishing now for any other sin.

Pump it up until you can feel it.
Pump it up when you don't really need it.

Blue Sunday

Quick Sunday Shoe Story today to end out the week. This pair of sandals from Aldo is one of the pairs I bought to potentially replace my favourite Montego Bay sandals. I’m less fond of these ones, since the soles are super hard, and the straps rub kind of weird at the ankles, but I’m slowly wearing them in. They’re also not the best shape to match my feet, since I have a super wide toe line (my mother claims it’s part of my Ukrainian heritage…) But whatever, they’re still cute, and I have very few blue shoes period, so I’ll put up with its imperfections for the time being!

On a different note, how are you all liking the additions that I’ve made to the blog? I’ve doubled the amount of posts, and given you tonnes more variety, so everyone should be happy with something. If you want to make any suggestions (especially for the review section) I would LOVE to hear them. I’m always looking for feedback from the people who actually care to read my blog, since getting what they want is what will keep them reading! You all might have some interesting ideas that I can try out, so go ahead and talk to me people! I promise I won’t bite (too hard)!
